Resolution Requesting the Providence Police to immediately enforce Section 1408, "Storage of Commercial Vehicles."

WHEREAS, Section 1408, “Storage of Commercial Vehicles”, of the Providence Zoning Code states “No commercial vehicle may be parked outdoors on a lot in a residential district, with the exception of vehicles engaged in loading or unloading or current work being done”; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Section 15-11, “Residential parking/standing of certain commercial vehicles”, of the Providence Code of Ordinances states “No commercial vehicle shall park or stand in any residentially zoned area unless engaged in the loading or off-loading of goods”; and

WHEREAS, However, constituents have reported commercial vehicles parking in residentially zoned areas while not engaged in the business of loading or unloading goods; and

WHEREAS, As the elected representatives of the people of Providence, the Providence City Council has a duty to ensure that all ordinances are consistently enforced in accordance with the Providence City Code of Ordinances.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Providence does hereby request the Providence Police to immediately enforce Section 1408, “Storage of Commercial Vehicles”.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon passage, copies of this resolution be sent to the Commissioner of Public Safety and the Chief of Police.
