AN ORDINANCE REGARDING OBSERVANCE OF THE MONTH OF MARCH AS IRISH-AMERICAN AND ITALIAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

 

Body

SECTION 1. The Code of Ordinances is amended to add a new Section 2-10.3, which provides as follows:

 

2-10.3. Irish-American and Italian-American Heritage Month

 

(a)              Purpose. The purpose of this section is to recognize and honor the innumerable contributions of Irish and Italian immigrants and their descendants to Providence, Rhode Island, and the United States of America.

 

(b)              The City of Providence recognizes the month of March as Irish-American and Italian-American Heritage Month in perpetuity. The Month will coincide with St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish National Holiday, on March 17th and St. Joseph’s Day on March 19th. The City of Providence will host ceremonies, exhibits, activities, and programs to celebrate generations of contributions by the Irish and the Italian communities to the City and the State of Rhode Island.

 

SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage.
