CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING

 

COMMUNICATION FROM

COUNCIL PRESIDENT MICHAEL A. SOLOMON

 

              Communication filed with the City Clerk February 15, 2012, in accordance with Sections 406 of the Providence Home Rule Charter of 1980 and Rule Number 3 of the Rules of the City Council, Requesting a Special Meeting of the City Council to be Called on the 17th  day of February at 5:00 o’clock P.M., in the City Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall.

WARRANT FOR SPECIAL MEETING

 

              Warrant of the City Clerk to the City Sergeant with Return Certification that he has notified each Member of the City Council of the Special Meeting Called for the 17th  day of February, 2012 at 500 o’clock P.M., in the City Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall.

ORDINANCES SECOND READING

 

              The Following Ordinances were in City Council January 3, 2012, Read and Passed the First Time and are Severally Returned for Passage the Second Time:

 

              An Ordinance Amending Chapter 11, Entitled: “Harbor and Port”, to establish a Harbor Management Commission. 

 

              Read and Passed the Second Time, on Motion of COUNCILMAN YURDIN, seconded by COUNCILMAN NARDUCCI, by the Following Roll Call Vote:

 

AYES:              COUNCIL PRESIDENT SOLOMON, COUNCILWOMAN CASTILLO, COUNCILMEN IGLIOZZI, JENNINGS, COUNCILWOMAN MATOS, COUNCILMEN NARDUCCI, PRINCIPE, SALVATORE, YURDIN and ZURIER – 10.

             

NAYES:              NONE.

                           

ABSENT:              COUNCILMEN APONTE, CORREIA, HASSETT, JACKSON and SANCHEZ – 5.

 

The Motion for Passage the Second Time is Sustained.

 

 

              An Ordinance Amending Article XV of Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Providence, Entitled: “Licenses.” 

 

              An Ordinance Amending Section 14-300 and Section 14-303 of Article XV of Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Providence, Entitled: “Licenses – Tobacco Dealers. 

 

COUNCILMAN YURDIN Moves to Dispense with the Reading of the foregoing matters and Moves Passage of the Several Ordinances the Second Time, seconded by COUNCILMAN NARDUCCI, by the Following Roll Call Vote:

 

AYES:              COUNCIL PRESIDENT SOLOMON, COUNCILWOMAN CASTILLO, COUNCILMEN IGLIOZZI, JENNINGS, COUNCILWOMAN MATOS, COUNCILMEN NARDUCCI, SALVATORE, YURDIN and ZURIER – 9.

             

NAYES:              COUNCILMAN PRINCIPE – 1.

                           

ABSENT:              COUNCILMEN APONTE, CORREIA, HASSETT, JACKSON and SANCHEZ – 5.

 

The Motion for Passage of the Several Ordinances the Second Time is Sustained.

 

 

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE

COUNCILMAN JOHN J. IGLIOZZI, Chairman

 

Transmits the Following with Recommendation the Same Approved:

 

              Communication dated January 13, 2012, Informing the Honorable Members of the City Council that pursuant to Sections 302(b) and 814 of the Providence Home Rule Charter of 1980, as amended and Public Law, Chapter 45-50, Sections 1 through 31 passed in 1987, he is this day appointing James Hackett of 70 Elmgrove Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island 02906, as a member of the Board of Tax Assessment and Review for a term to expire on January 31, 2015, and respectfully submits the same for your approval.               

 

COUNCILMAN YURDIN Moves to Receive and Approve the foregoing Communication, seconded by COUNCILMAN NARDUCCI.

 

 

PERSONAL EXPRESSION

             

              COUNCILMAN YURDIN Requests the privilege of the floor to speak on a Point of Personal Expression and states:

 

              “I just want to thank all the folks that are here tonight and all the hard work that you have done with regard to the tobacco ordinances.  We talked about them yesterday as well, but again thank you so much for coming and for all of your work”

 

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

 

              There being no further business, on Motion of COUNCILMAN YURDIN, seconded by COUNCILMAN NARDUCCI, it is voted to adjourn at 5:10 o’clock P.M. (E.S.T.), to meet again THURSDAY, MARCH 1, 2012 at 7:00 o’clock P.M. (E.S.T.)
