              Request, filed with the City Clerk, July 13, 2010, Requesting a Special Meeting of the City Council to be Called on the 15th day of July, 2010 upon the rise of the Regular meeting of the City Council in the City Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall.

              Received.

 

WARRANT FOR SPECIAL MEETING

 

              Warrant of the City Clerk to Vincent J. Berarducci, City Sergeant with Return Certification that he has notified each Member of the City Council of the Special Meeting Called for the 15th day of July, 2010 upon the rise of the Regular meeting of the City Council in the City Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall.

              Received.

 

VETO FROM HIS HONOR THE MAYOR

 

              Consideration of Mayor David N. Cicilline’s VETO of the Ordinance Entitled:  “An Ordinance in Amendment of Section 21, Article II (Section 21-26, by Adding Subsection (2), As Amended”, approved by the City Council at its meeting held July 1, 2010.

 

              COUNCILMAN HASSETT Moves to Override the Mayo’s Veto, seconded by COUNCILMAN DELUCA, by the Following Roll Call Vote:

             

AYES:              COUNCIL PRESIDENT MANCINI, COUNCILMEN APONTE, DELUCA, COUNCILWOMAN DIRUZZO, COUNCILMEN HASSETT, IGLIOZZI, JACKSON, NARDUCCI, SOLOMON, WOOD, COUNCILWOMAN YOUNG and COUNCILMAN YURDIN – 12.

 

NAYES:              NONE.

 

ABSENT:              COUNCILMEN LOMBARDI, LUNA and TEJADA – 3.

 

              The Motion to Override the Mayor’s Veto is Sustained.

COMMITTEE ON ORDINANCES

COUNCILMAN MICHAEL A. SOLOMON, Chairman

 

              Transmits the Following with Recommendation the Same be Adopted:

 

              An Ordinance Amending Article 1 of Chapter 15 of the Code of Ordinances, Entitled: “Motor Vehicles and Traffic.” 

 

              Read and Passed the First Time, on Motion of COUNCILMAN HASSETT, seconded by COUNCILMAN DELUCA, by the Following Roll Call Vote:

 

AYES:              COUNCIL PRESIDENT MANCINI, COUNCILMEN APONTE, DELUCA, COUNCILWOMAN DIRUZZO, COUNCILMEN HASSETT, IGLIOZZI, JACKSON, NARDUCCI, SOLOMON, WOOD, COUNCILWOMAN YOUNG and COUNCILMAN YURDIN – 12.

 

NAYES:              NONE.

 

ABSENT:              COUNCILMEN LOMBARDI, LUNA and TEJADA – 3.

 

              The Motion for Passage the First Time is Sustained.

 

              COUNCILMAN LUNA JOINS THE MEETING.

 

              Transmits the Following with Recommendation the Same be Approved, as amended:

 

              Resolution Requesting the placement of the following 2010 Ballot Questions to amend Section 1007, 401(d) and 412 of the Providence Home Rule Charter: 

 

Shall the Board of Contract and Supply membership be changed by removing the director of public works, the commissioner of public safety, the chairperson of the water supply board, and the president of the school committee as members and adding as a member the chairperson of committee of the city council with jurisdiction over public works  committee, and allow board members who serve on the city council to designate other council members to serve on the board in their absence? [Amends Section 1007]

 

Shall acts that by Charter require approval of two-thirds of the city council be exempt from mayoral veto? [Amends Section 401 (d) and Section 412].     

 

              Read and Passed, on Motion of COUNCILMAN HASSETT, seconded by COUNCILMAN DELUCA, by the Following Roll Call Vote:

 

AYES:              COUNCIL PRESIDENT MANCINI, COUNCILMEN APONTE, DELUCA, COUNCILWOMAN DIRUZZO, COUNCILMEN HASSETT, IGLIOZZI, JACKSON, LUNA, NARDUCCI, SOLOMON, COUNCILWOMAN YOUNG and COUNCILMAN YURDIN – 12.

 

NAYES:              COUNCILMAN WOOD – 1.

 

ABSENT:              COUNCILMEN LOMBARDI and TEJADA – 2.

 

              The Motion for Passage is Sustained.

 

Matter was VETOED by the Mayor and the VETO was Sustained.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

              There being no further business, on Motion of COUNCILMAN HASSETT, seconded by COUNCILMAN DELUCA, it is voted to adjourn at 7:40 o’clock P.M. (E.D.T.), to meet again MONDAY, JULY 26, 2010 at 6:00 o’clock P.M. (E.D.T.)
